Lyrics

GOOD OL’ BOY

He was the best friend many people ever had,
And for the longest time I thought of him as just my Dad,
I took for granted he was everything a man could be.
Mother said he came from a different time,
When you didn’t think twice about standing behind
A promise you made, a handshake, or your word.
A God fearing man who was not afraid, to speak his mind, and call a spade a spade,
A man of few words, but his word was good as gold.

He’s a good ol’ boy, from way back when.
His body’s giving out, but he’s not giving in.
He’s a man, a good ol’ boy.

He grew up through The Depression years,
And the war overseas still sometimes almost bring tears to his eyes,
When somebody asks him “Did you serve?”
He married a country girl from a little old country town,
Work was hard to find so they moved anywhere it could be found,
A survivor who learned that a man makes his own destiny.
He believed in family, love and discipline,
And standing by his own kind through thick and thin.
One of a kind, and always kind to one and all.

He’s a good ol’ boy, from way back when.
His body’s giving out, but he’s not giving in.
He’s a man, a good ol’ boy.

He use to tell me that Life’s a game,
Without winners or losers, (no) we’re all the same.
It’s not what you have, it’s what you have to give.

He’s an unsung hero knocking on Heaven’s door.
You know, they just don’t make ‘em like that any more.
I pray to God when I’m his age that someone, somewhere says...

He’s a good ol’ boy, from way back when,
His body’s giving out, but he’s not giving in.
He’s a man. A good ol’ boy.

Another good ol’ boy, from way back when,
His body gave out, and he had to give in. He was a man... A Good Ol’ Boy.
